THE CHANGES OF MY NAME
At my birth I was named "Neona May". A very lovely name, though somewhat hard to say. I was the only girl in a family with three boys, We had lots of fun and we made a lot of noise.
If I fell and hurt my knee, Mother fixed me with a kiss. My Daddy called me "Nonie" and oftentimes, just "Sis". I became simply "Neona" when I was a teen, Though I was called "Leona, Naomi", and everything in between.
When I met a handsome lad, it was "Hon" that I became. Then in a couple of years "Mrs. Owen" was my name. It was a few years and children later that I received another. This name lasted longer—my new name then was "Mother".
The years sped by, so rapidly, it seems— The children all met the person of their dreams. Time went by and finally the grandchildren came. And along with them, still another name.
The name they gave me, I treasure with the rest. I do believe it’s the name that I have liked the best. The kids have a lot of fun playing with their Grandpa, And I’m so very pleased to hear them call me "Grandma"! Neona Owen Grandma Nonie and most of her grandkids! |
